Spider's thread

When I stood beneath a tree for shade, I felt like I was enveloped with a verdure space.

I'm standing beneath the boughs
in a wispy green space,
A thread of a spider
from a bough
is too short for me to reach
(haricot)

Recently, after long time, I visited Byōdō-in in Uji city in Kyoto prefecture. The architecture is famous for the design of 10yen coin, and was built by one of the most powerful member of Fujiwara clan as a villa, and was changed to a Buddhist temple by Fujiwara no Yorimich in 1052, as a Pure Land.

I was attracted by the design of the main building, Phoenix Hall, while I'm captivated by the pond called Aji-ike(阿字池), especially nearby the right wing of the Hall.

The pond reminds me of a tale, The spider's Thread「蜘蛛の糸」, by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa (芥川 龍之介). At the beginning of the tale, Buddha was meandering around in Paradise and looked down upon the depth of a pond and found a criminal, Kandata.Buddha lowered a thread of a spider for him who did not kill a spider which he scarcely crushed. (the plot is here)

Byōdō-in is located near the wealth of water, Uji-river, the source of it is Biwa-lake.

Strolling along the river that flows with passage of time, I felt as if it ware a brief dream that I was in  the tranquil atmosphere of Byōdō-in a little while ago, this world and another one were mingled there.

On my way to go back I saw various white- tinged flowers.
They were blooming in each stage of their lives.

When placing stethoscope to a tree, you can hear the heartbeat-like sound. I heard the sound of the tree through stethoscope on youtube. The sound is said to be what the tree hears with its branches, its leaves, its roots or with its whole body.
When I'm tired, I hug the tree.It is warm and hugs me back and gives me energy.

The thread looks like a diamond lace, so delicate and beautiful.
Your photos all make me feel calm and peaceful. Thank you for sharing your world.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful world!

I remember feeling overwhelmed by the beauty of Byodo-in which reflects the glory of Fujiwara Michinaga and Yorimichi and people’s quest for the land of Paradise Bliss through peaceful death.

To take over cosmos’ talk, I’ve heard we can hear water running through inside the trunk, probably by stethoscope. A tree lives and breathes just like us. Just standing under a tree, I feel enveloped in green energy.

Spider’s net is a delicate art created by nature. It looks delicate but strong. In your photo, it looks wet with water drops and so beautiful in the reflection of greens.

Thank you again for filling me with calm energy.

Haricot,
You mentioned "われに届かぬ蜘蛛の糸垂る" and I felt your sadness.
Byodo-in is good place to soothe you. I remembered 浄瑠璃寺 which is dedicated to Amida Buddha. It was long time ago we all visited this temple. He liked this temple, didn't he?

Spider web with shining rain drops is beautiful and symbolic.

When you see a tree which you like, hug it.

Thank you for your comment.
It's moving that you wrote about trees as you mentioned your friends.

When I pass through on the shadows of trees, I sometimes feel like I'm embraced by them.

I'd like to hear their breath.

Thank you for your comment.

When I heard of the sound inside the trunks, I thought it was that of sucking up water from roots. Breathing sound is more poetic and I like the idea.
Thank you for your comment.

I'm not a Buddhist, though unconsciously I thought about salvation, I think.
I'd like to search more delightful subject, but on tanka poem I also remember a person who passed away recently.

The vanity of the thread of the spider.
The prosperity of the ancient city.
They are symbolic.

Japanese atmosphere is condensed there.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

I love all the photos! You did a good job!
From a documentary on the NHK-BS Premium I'm familiar with the architecture of Byodo-in. They shot it from all possible angles and in various seasons.
Little flowers on the roadside are always challenging, most of the times we hardly look at them....not when you have the hydrangeas blooming so lovingly!

I missed the documentary unfortunately. The shape of the temple is attractive and the main Hall wasn't burned and maintains the original apparance.
Thank you for your visit.
